Professor Anita Rampal is a renowned educationist and professor of elementary and social education at the Department of Education, Delhi University, India. Born in 1954, she completed her M.Sc. in 1975 and PhD in Physics in 1982 from the University of Delhi. She served as Professor of Elementary and School Education at Delhi University for nearly two decades and was also the Dean of the Faculty of Education. Earlier, she worked at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (1983-1990). She has been a fellow of ARENA, a founder-member of the Global University for Sustainability, and member-at-large of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI). For over four decades, she has worked extensively to improve mathematics and science education in India, developing child-centered curricula and teaching strategies, particularly in rural schools. Prof. Rampal was a core expert in the development of the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and has contributed to several national policy committees. She served as Hon. Director of the National Literacy Research Centre and participated in the Hoshangabad science teaching programme, national literacy campaigns, and the people’s science movement. She has published numerous articles and co-authored books such as Public Report on Basic Education (PROBE), Numeracy Counts, and Zindagi Ka Hisab, and has initiated several NCERT textbooks including Math-Magic, Rimjhim, and Around Us. Additionally, she has produced films on women’s education and participation.
