Drishti for Fog Monitoring

Drishti-transmissiometer, seen above at the Lucknow airport, is a visibility measuring system developed indigenously by CSIR-NAL. The system is conceived from concept to product with international class I certification. The Drishti system at a field site consists of a transmitter and receiver separated by a characteristic distance called baseline to meet all categories of airport requirements for runway visual range (RVR). The transmitter sends a collimated beam of light which is received by an optical detector in the receiver separated by 30m.

Abstract: Reduced winter visibility due to fog can be a major deterrent to transport operations. The indigenously developed Drishti-transmissometers installed at Indian airports have successfully managed to overcome this challenge.
