I fully agree with the contents in the article. I sympathize with the government in defending the persons manning the weather forecast division. But the fact remains that a layman today has lost faith in the IMD. Most of the time the forecasts are ignored. So much of public money is spent on the Forecasting Division. Government must do something to restore the credibility and soon enough.

Briefs
I must thank G&Y for carrying brief information on Children in India. The small articles are handy and easy to update our knowledge base. Kindly carry similar features on other social issues like unemployment, HIV, empowerment of women etc.

The Bishnois
The Bishnois present great example in forest conservation. This kind of stories should be popularized more and more and our youth should be inspired by the sacrifices made by the Bishnois and try to imitate them. The article is well conceived but it should have been printed under the band Forest Conservation and not Peoples of India. I hope Editorial Board of G&Y agrees with my suggestion.

Essays on Water
I am a regular reader of G&Y since 2002. I got hold of the book Essays on Water published by you. This one book carries almost all issues related to water today. Thanks. I have recommended to my students to have a copy of this book. I have a few queries: Are you planning to publish it in Hindi also? Are you also contemplating publishing books like Essays on Agriculture/ Essays on Environment etc? There is dearth of books on these issues with current information.
I read the hard hitting article titled Special Economic Zones: A boom or doom, by Dr. Narmadeshwar Prasad in September-October 2006 issue of G&Y. The article has exposed the intention of the Government towards our farmers and consequently agriculture in the country. The anti-farmer policies have been perpetuated by the previous and the present regimes. Why can’t the Government allot sites for SEZs in ravines of Chambal or on many more barren lands in the country? The protests in West Bengal and other parts of the country should be taken as an eye-opener by our policy makers.
