The versatility of plastics has endeared it to various irreplaceable uses. Yet, disposal of plastics remains a grim reality and plastics waste management needs urgent attention. Indian Centre for Plastics in the Environment (ICPE) in its quest to seek amicable, environment friendly and scientific solutions have recently presented two pioneering studies that have the potential to change the nation, turning it clean and green.

Bhoramdeo was once the capital of the illustrious Phani Nagavanshi kings (10th-14th century AD), whose kingdom included the entire Kawardha District. Famed for its early medieval temples - Bhoramdeo, Mandwa Mahal and Chheraki Mahal - and a wildlife sanctuary by the same name, the region encompasses the undulating Maikal hills, with its dense sal forests and meandering waters of river Sankari.

Rice is grown in range of eco-systems under varying climatic and hydrological conditions - from waterlogged, and irrigated to rainfed situations. Based on the levels of productivity, the status of rice across the nation has been classified under five categories, purpoting analysis.

In the backdrop of varying socio cultural milieu, changing climatic regimes and often conflicting demands of various stakeholders, there is an urgent need for augmenting and accelerating the efforts for conservation of biological diversity in India, and for fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources.
