<p>सार्स-सीओवी-2 (SARS-CoV-2) वायरस से फैली कोविड-19 (COVID-19) बीमारी की चपेट में अमूमन विश्व का अधिकांश देश आ गया है। विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन डैशबोर्ड के अनुसार 23 मार्च, 2020 तक विश्व के 186 देशों में 2,94,110 लोगों में इस वायरस के संक्रमण की पुष्टि हो चुकी है जबकि 12,994 लोगों की मौत हो चुकी है।</p>

<p>The capital of Delhi along with north-western plains of India witnessed heavy showers in the months of February and March 2020. These regions had also witnessed unusually cold months in November-December 2019. The anomaly comes further to light when the overall rainfall figures for the month of March 2020 is seen to be the highest on record. For the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall during this year's pre-monsoon season (up to March 11, 2020) was above long period average (LPA) by 82 per cent. For central India, it was above LPA by as much as 212 per cent (Table-1). This year’s frequent weather disturbances, as seen in February-March 2020 are in continuation of the record breaking chilly weather witnessed in December 2020. </p>

Peter Kiernan, Lead Analyst, Energy, The Economist Intelligence Unit (The EIU) talks to G’nY about the current state of global climate change efforts. The newly released global emissions data for 2019 by the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) shows almost an unchanged emission rate when compared to 2018. Although, it is encouraging that the annual rate of growth in global emissions appears to be slowing down, however environmentalists were hoping for a falling emissions scenario. It is worth noting that the emissions flattened out despite the global GDP growing by nearly 3 per cent. But this progress needs to accelerate if the long term goals are to be met. Peter shares his views in the backdrop of the 2019 global emissions data.
